AsiaInfo Holdings, provider of telecom network integration and software solutions in China, has signed a contract to provide China Unicom's national VoIP (voice over IP) network with its customer care and billing software - AIOBS.

This contract is a part of China Unicom's VoIP network third phase expansion efforts.

This win follows an earlier contract announced in April 2001, in which AsiaInfo was selected to provide network integration services to support the carrier's VoIP network third phase expansion.

Upon completion of the project, the network capacity is expected to nearly triple the current level.

The China VoIP market has emerged as one of the largest in the world. MII reported that during the first six months of 2001, VoIP traffic in China reached 8.1 billion minutes and accounted for 19.2% of the total long distance usage, a sizable increase from 1.8% in the same period of last year. -(World IT Report)
